Tinajo

For many years, the village of Tinajo belonged to lands of Inaguaden and later on acquired its independence as a municipality in 1802. Tinajo is a municipality of great agricultural significance, as it served as grazing land for the herds and supports various types of cultivation as well.

Located in Tinajo are the huge, majestic houses of the nobility, in places like La Santa and La Vegueta , Such stately residences are an indication of the island's prosperous times.

When in the vicinity, you must not miss visiting the Church of Los Dolores which was constructed in 1780 due to a promise made by the villagers of Tinajo to the Virgin of Los Dolores . She is popularly known as the virgin of the volcanoes, and it is said that the lava that threatened to envelop the entire town of Tinajo miraculously stopped flowing when she was brought out. For this reason, the festival is celebrated as a sign of the virgin's vocation in protecting the village from the scorching lava of the volcano.
The Church of San Roque , situated in the village square, was constructed in 1795. The most interesting altarpieces are conserved in its interior and you will certainly be fascinated by them.
The village of La Santa is a typical seaside community, with great beaches that are ideal for surfing. The popular club, La Santa Sport , a tourist complex with first-rate sporting facilities used by top international athletes, belongs to La Santa .

The most important festival of the municipality is La Romeria de Los Dolores , which is celebrated on the 15th of September, in commemoration of the Virgen de Los Dolores , the patron saint of the island.
